By Daniel Mareng Wek

Juba, 17th March 2025- A one-day workshop on the National Instant Payment System kicked off in Juba on Monday, focusing on educating stakeholders and financial institutions on the benefits of the National Instant Payment System (NIPS). The event aims to broaden understanding of the system and its potential to enhance financial transactions across South Sudan.

Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) Governor, Hon. Johnny Ohisa Damian attended the opening ceremony, where he reaffirmed the BoSS commitment to advancing financial inclusion. “Our vision is to create a payment system accessible, efficient, and affordable for the people of South Sudan,” he said. Governor Ohisa emphasized the crucial role that such systems play in ensuring equitable access to financial services, benefiting all citizens, businesses, and institutions in the country.

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer for AfricanNenda Foundation, Akinwale Goodluck said the workshop is significant as it will open a new direction and interactive platform for stakeholders to engage and understand the systems.

Akum David Sabahker, Director of National Payment System, said the workshop, being organized by the BoSS in collaboration with AfricanNenda Foundation, aligns with the country’s broader goals of promoting financial inclusion and modernizing its payment infrastructure.

The gathering brought together key players from the financial sector, mobile operators, and technology experts to explore the opportunities that Instant Payments present for improving the efficiency and accessibility of financial services in South Sudan.
