Leaders from various institutions gathered on Thursday at the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) Conference Hall in Juba for a one-day policy dissemination workshop on financial inclusion and market development in South Sudan.

The event was organized by the Bank of South Sudan in collaboration with the Ebony Centre for Strategic Studies and the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC).

The workshop was attended by BoSS Governor, Hon. Dr. Addis Ababa Othow, the Deputy Minister of ICT and Postal Services, Hon. David Yau Yau, undersecretaries from relevant government institutions, lawmakers, representatives from universities, commercial banks, and mobile money operators.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Othow called for collective action to raise awareness and promote the adaptability of the banking system.

Yau Yau underscored the wide-ranging benefits such systems offer to both financial institutions and the general public.

The workshop session featured a series of presentations, including one by the BoSS Director General for Policy, Research, and Statistics Abugo Charles Joseph Abate on “Impediments to the Evolution of Mobile Money and Financial Inclusion in South Sudan,” authored by former BoSS Governor, Dr. James Alic Garang and another key presentation, titled “Financial Inclusion and Market Development,” authored by Hon. Jacqueline Nyibol Ajongo and Prof. Samson Taban Joseph.

Following the presentation, speakers from various sectors offered in-depth reflections, emphasizing and reaffirming the importance of embracing digital banking systems.
