Juba-10 October 2025-The Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) launched on Friday the country’s first electronic Interbank Payment and Settlement System, shifting from paper-based manual to modern digital process.

The new system enables real-time bank-to-bank transactions, enhances the safety of financial transactions, and improves overall efficiency. It is also expected to support mobile money integration, reduces processing cost, saves time, and enhances transparency as well as accountability across the banking sector.

In the launch ceremony, National Minister of Cabinet Affairs Hon. Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro, who represented H.E. President Salva Kiir, underscored the government’s commitment towards strengthening service delivery through continued financial reform.

BoSS Governor, Hon. Dr. Addis Ababa Othow said the system will enhance financial inclusion, with direct benefits to women, youth, and the rural population. He thanked President Kiir for his support, crediting the success to national teamwork.

BoSS First Deputy Governor, Hon. Samuel Yanga Mikaya emphasized the shift from costly time-consuming manual procedures to a secure, fast and efficient real-time payment system.

Ministry of Finance’s First Undersecretary Hon. Garang Majak Bol praised the Bank for successfully implementation of the system and pledged the Ministry’s full preparedness to support the system’s implementation.

East African Community (EAC) and African Development Bank (AfDB) representatives welcomed the move as it aligns the financial systems of South Sudan with regional reforms, boosts trade, and enhances deposit security.

Chairperson of South Sudan Bankers Association, Bruna Siricio confirmed renewed backing of commercial banks to financial sector reforms and viability of the new system.
