Juba, August 13, 2025- As the Government gears towards full operationalization of National Payment System, the National Minister of Trade, Hon. Atong Kuol Manyang Juuk, has called on all traders nationwide to adopt mobile money as an accepted and necessary form of payment.

The Minister issued this call following a meeting with Bank of South Sudan officials, such as the Director of Communication and Public Relations, Majok Nikodemo Arou, and the Director of the National Payment System, Akum David Sabahker, among others.
The Minister emphasized the government’s pledge towards digitalization of financial transactions, citing: “I know there are few traders who still don’t accept payments digitally and they also want cash, but we want to make one thing very clear, digital payment is now a government policy. Citizens who wish to pay through mobile money have to be allowed to do so when buying goods or paying for services.”
Minister Atong also urged traders to work together with the government and with the citizens, adding that, “this is not only significant to customers and traders but also for all of us.”
The program is part of a broader initiative by the government and the Bank of South Sudan in particular to modernize the nation’s payment infrastructure and enhance transparency.
