Mobile Money Providers Vow Nationwide Expansion to Back Government’s Digital Payment Push

Juba, August 14, 2025 – Mobile money operators have vowed to extend their services to many areas in South Sudan in an effort to support the government’s plan to encourage digital payment systems.

MTN and Digitel officials made the commitment during a series of meetings with the Bank of South Sudan’s Department of Communication and Public Relations.
The initiative is set to propel the nation towards a more sustainable and efficient digital economy.

De Chan Awuol, Digitel Holdings Executive Vice President, affirmed his company readiness to promote public awareness on the benefits of digital banking. He also commended the Bank of South Sudan for leading the way in creating digital payment solutions.

Harrison Daka, MoMo Senior Manager for Products and Services, assured that MTN is committed to expanding its operations to more areas, encouraging both traders and customers to use mobile money for purchasing goods and services, a move aimed at reducing liquidity shortages.

Mobile money business expansion is a significant step towards improving reach out to financial services and curbing reliance on cash payments across the country.
