Central Bank, NCA Collaborate to Expedite Digital Payment System Launch

Juba, August 11, 2025- The Bank of South Sudan, through its National Payment System (NPS) Department, held a critical meeting with the National Communication Authority (NCA) to explore strategies for accelerating the implementation of digital payment solutions, ahead of the bank’s plans to operationalize the system.
Given the vital role of NCA in regulating telecommunication companies, they discussed ways to expedite the implementation of the system.
Speaking during the preparatory meeting with officials from the Bank of South Sudan, NCA Director General Gieth Kon Mathiang described the digital payment system as a smooth and convenient means of facilitating transactions.
“From my side, I am supporting the Central Bank to improve and ensure that the national payment system is functioning,” said DG Mathiang.
Akum David Sabahker, Director for the National Payment System at the Bank of South Sudan, briefed the NCA DG on achievements made so far, including the modernization of the national payment infrastructure and the growing role of digital banking in reducing the risks associated with carrying physical cash.
