Governor Opens Rumbek Currency Centre, Highlights Vision for Financial Growth

Rumbek, Lakes State- November 1, 2025- The Bank of South Sudan has officially opened its Rumbek Currency Centre, a landmark facility that marks a new chapter in the expansion and modernization of the country’s financial infrastructure.The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Hon. Dr. Addis Ababa Othow Akongdit, Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, and graced by Hon. Athian Ding Athian, Minister of Finance and Planning, the Guest of Honour representing H.E. the President Gen. Kiir Mayardit.

The event was also attended by H.E. General Rin Tueny Mabor, Governor of Lakes State, Honourable Members of the National Legislative Assembly, senior government officials, representatives of financial institutions, and distinguished members of the public.The Rumbek Currency Centre represents a major step in the Bank’s ongoing efforts to decentralize currency operations, enhance cash distribution efficiency, and strengthen financial inclusion across the regions.

The new facility will serve as a secure hub for currency issuance, distribution, and processing, significantly reducing logistical challenges and operational risks associated with long-distance cash movements from Juba.

Governor Dr. Addis Ababa Othow underscored that this achievement is a testament to the peace, stability, and visionary leadership of H.E. President Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, whose commitment to national development continues to guide the Bank’s reform agenda.

The Rumbek Currency Centre forms part of the Bank of South Sudan’s broader program to establish regional currency centres across the country, a critical component of its institutional reform strategy aimed at improving operational efficiency, ensuring timely currency availability, and supporting economic activity at the grassroots level.

The Governor reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and modernization, highlighting that similar initiatives will soon be extended to other states to enhance nationwide access to financial services and promote monetary stability.

The Bank of South Sudan extends its sincere appreciation to the Government of the Republic of South Sudan, the leadership of Lakes State, development partners, and all stakeholders who contributed to the realization of this milestone project.
