Juba, January 21st, 2026- The Vice President for Gender and Youth Cluster, H.E. Rebecca Nyandeng Garang, who also serves as the Acting Chairperson of the Governance Cluster, underscored the importance of statistics in national development.

Speaking at the opening of the Policy Dialogue on Official Statistics in South Sudan, organized by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), H.E. Nyandeng said, “Statistics is no longer a technical issue; it is a development issue. We want our country to be guided by evidence, not assumptions.”

The National Minister of Finance and Planning, Hon. Dr. Barnaba Bak Chol, commended the Bank of South Sudan for hosting the dialogue, describing it as a vital enabler for the government to set a clear policy agenda based on sound and transparent statistics.

For his part, the Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Hon. Yeni Samuel Costa, stated, “Our role is monetary policy, and all these areas are interlinked. This statistical dialogue will help the Bank strengthen monetary policy.”

The event, held under the theme “Better Data, Better Decisions, Better Lives,” was attended by members of the National Parliament, representatives from key government institutions, and development partners.

Participants highlighted the importance of statistics for governance, advocating for improved funding and visibility through legal frameworks.
