Kampala, Uganda, July 24, 2026 -The 29th Ordinary Meeting of the East African Community (EAC) Monetary Affairs Committee (MAC) has concluded in Kampala, with central bank officials reaffirming their commitment to strengthening monetary policy coordination, safeguarding financial stability, and advancing the implementation of the East African Monetary Union (EAMU).

Representing the Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Deputy Governor for Administration and Finance, Hon. Weituey Luony signed the Joint Communiqué on behalf of the Bank, reaffirming South Sudan’s commitment to the East African Community integration agenda and the establishment of the East African Monetary Union by 2031.

During the meeting, Hon. Weituey highlighted the Bank of South Sudan’s ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening monetary policy, modernizing the financial system, and enhancing institutional capacity through collaboration with regional central banks and development partners.

Held from 20-24 July 2026, the meeting brought together Governors, Deputy Governors, and senior central bank officials from EAC Partner States to review regional economic developments, enhance monetary policy coordination, and accelerate progress toward the East African Monetary Union.
