Bank’s Governor Dr. Alic attends African Caucus Meeting in Abuja

Upon arrival at the African Caucus meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, BoSS Governor Hon. Dr. James Alic and other delegates discussed the continent’s economic challenges such as reliance on foreign imports, underemployment, and the impacts of conflicts and pandemics.

In response, African finance leaders pledged to prioritize local production, boost intra-Africa trade, unify taxation policies, improve communication, and develop youth programs.

BoSS Governor and Chairman of the African Monetary Affairs Committee, emphasized the role of digitalization in advancing financial inclusion in South Sudan. He also called on African financial institutions to support South Sudan’s efforts to foster comprehensive economic reform.

Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Agok Makur highlighted the forum’s role in facilitating policy collaboration and crafting recommendations to tackle economic issues.

The event highlighted the urgent need for governments to accelerate initiatives that enhance communication, policies, digitalization, and energy access and to create an environment conducive to transparent economic growth.

Vice President Kashim Shettima of Nigeria, who attended the event, underscored the importance of collaboration to achieve the goals of African societies and acknowledged the continent’s economic challenges.

African finance leaders will push resolutions aimed at stabilizing Africa’s economy and strengthening its position at the International Monetary Fund and World Bank annual meetings in Washington this October.
