Azande King Urges BoSS to Open Branch in WES to Support Local Economy

Juba, 18th March 2025 – His Majesty Atoroba Peni Rikito, King of the Azande Kingdom, paid a courtesy visit to the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS), where he was warmly received by the Bank’s leadership and staff.

During his meeting with BoSS Governor Hon. Johnny Ohisa Damian, the King formally requested the establishment of Bank of South Sudan branch in Western Equatoria State (WES) to support local traders and government institutions in boosting the region’s economic development.

King Atoroba also requested assistance for the region’s agricultural sector, specifically asking for the provision of agricultural tools and equipment to enhance local production.

“The Azande Kingdom, known for its strong traditional leadership, is dedicated to restoring South Sudanese cultural values, promoting peace, and advancing agriculture, especially in Western Equatoria’s fertile lands,” he said.

In addition, Pia Philip Michael, the son of the Kingdom of the Azande, praised BoSS for its magnificent landmark and expressing the Kingdom’s readiness to promote peace in the region.

BoSS Governor Johnny Ohisa expressed gratitude for the King’s visit and assured him that the institution had already secured land in Yambio town for the planned branch. He confirmed that plans are underway for the laying of the foundation stone for the new branch.

The Bank’s leadership also praised the King’s focus on agriculture and pledged to advocate for funds to support small businesses and cooperatives in the region, aiming to strengthen the local economy.

BoSS Second Deputy Governor for Administration and Finance, Hon. Gan Samuel Bwogo, commended the Azande Kingdom’s efforts in fostering unity and development in the region.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, BoSS Director for Communication and Public Relations, Mr. Nikodemo Majok Arou, highlighted the crucial role of the Kingdom in promoting peace and stability for economic prosperity. The meeting, attended by Bank Directors General and a delegation from the Azande Kingdom, emphasized the Kingdom’s role in advancing peace, agriculture, and economic growth in South Sudan.
