27th Ordinary Meeting of the East African Community (EAC) Monetary Affairs Committee (MAC)

Juba, South Sudan

April 29 – May 3, 2024

The East African Community (EAC) Monetary Affairs Committee (MAC) is a committee dedicated to establishing a monetary union for the member states of the EAC.

Here’s a quick rundown of the MAC:

  • Goal: Create an East African Monetary Union (EAMU)
  • Function: Oversees progress towards the EAMU by:
    • Reviewing implementation of plans agreed upon at previous meetings
    • Discussing the current state of economic convergence among member states
  • Meetings: The East African Community Monetary Affairs Committee (EAC MAC) convenes regularly. The 26th Ordinary Meeting took place in March 2023, held in Burundi. The 27th Ordinary Meeting is scheduled for April 2024 in South Sudan.

The EAMU aspires to unify the economies of EAC member states through a single currency. The MAC plays a crucial role in bringing this vision to life.
