BoSS Governor inaugurates Aweil Branch

Aweil, June 2024–BoSS Governor Hon. Dr. James Alic Garang, accompanied by his First Deputy Samuel Yanga and other officials, inaugurated Aweil branch on June 28th, 2024, amidst a warm reception from the local community and government.
While in Aweil town, Dr. James Alic said this new branch was a historic milestone in expanding financial services in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State.

“He said this branch is the first of its kind in Aweil, expected not only to promote transparency and foster financial inclusion, but would also reduce transaction cost and control revenue, urging the community to take ownership of the project.”
The Deputy Governor of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State Dr. Tong Lual Ayat praised the bank’s initiative for expanding financial services in the area.
On the other hand, the Bank’s first Deputy Governor, Samuel Yanga encouraged communities to engage in farming to reduce dependency on imports.
Given the strategic location of Aweil and itsactive markets and economic activities, the new branch would significantly boost banking and financial services, as well as encourage traders to utilize banking services rather than keeping money in their homes. The event, attended by state and national officials, highlighted the Bank’s crucial role in regulating market prices.
Meanwhile in Aweil West County, a jubilant crowd received Dr. James Alic Garang as he returned to his hometown of Ajok Boma after an eleven-year absence. The community turned out in multitudes, with students and residents similarly forming long lines to greet and applaud Dr. Alic for his significant economic contributions and exemplary leadership.
Dr. Alic visit was particularly inspiring for students, who showed immense support in towns like Nyamlel, Marial Baai and Ajok. This overwhelming reception underscored his profound impact on the community and his pivotal role in shaping economic policies.
The ceremony stood as a testament to deep respect and admiration he commands among both young and old in his native village.
The Acting Governor of the state, Dr. Tong Lual Ayat was among the dignitaries in attendance, extending congratulations to Dr. Alic and pledging continued governmental support.
In another development the BoSS governor visited Aweil rice scheme in an effort to enhance food security through agriculture. The central bank is leading by example in cultivating, echoing President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s call for increased agricultural productivity. This strategic move aims not only to combat encroaching hunger but also to reduce dependency on imports.
This year, the state government allocated extensive land for the Bank to expand its rice cultivation efforts an initiative that holds a significant objective and policy focus in diversifying the economy.
The governor underscored the importance of investing in agriculture and supporting local food production to reduce reliance on imports and generate income from surplus food supplies.
